Redbreast Tilapia also known as Pinkies are feisty fighters especially on the fly rod, they can grow to respectable sizes and have no objection to picking up a well placed fly. When hooked they will use the wide flat profile of their bodies against the angler and try to get back into some of the nasty subsurface structure they love to hang out in. In general they make for an awesome fly rod challenge, since casts need to be laid tight against vegetation and the hardly undetectable way they can pick up and reject a fly, make for a exiting day on the water.
We have been fortunate enough to find a local dam where these redbreasts are not only prolific, but grow to respectable sizes. Most times they will nab a subsurface fly stripped slowly, but sometimes they will take a small dry making for some unforgettable action as they pluck a small DDD or similar dry of the surface.
In addition to the redbreasts in this dam, there is a healthy population of Largemouth Bass that are well managed and grow to respectable sizes.
